‘When A Man Loves A Woman’ Singer Died
We all know Percy Sledge for his impeccable way of performing the classic When A Man Loves A Woman. Unfortunately for his fans and simply lovers of beautiful meaningful songs, the artist died Tuesday in Louisiana, at the age of 74. About an hour after midnight, his death was reported, the causes being natural, in hospice care.
In 1966, When A Man Loves A Woman beat all the other records and won the title of No. 1. The song was actually Percy Sledge’s debut single, a ballad full of true feelings expressed through such delicate and powerful lyrics; a soul ballad. His approach on the song has never left our hearts, from the moment we listened to it for the first time. Jerry Wexler, executive at Atlantic Records, claimed that the song was ‘ a holy love hymn’ and we couldn’t agree more. After this hit, the tours began. All through Europe, South Africa and in the US, Sledge shared the powerful and sweet shivers that his song was creating in each of us.
The wedding industry claimed the song as a must for each and every event and it was often turned up in movies, since it offers such different interpretations. Some of the films that used When A Man Loves A Woman as key to catch the audience’s soul into a smooth dance include The Crying Game and The Big Chill. Also, a 1994 Meg Ryan drama counted on the lyrics of the song to get the wanted impact on the public.
